Jareen Imam is charged with developing content and editorial for Amazon’s Advertising team. She works cross-functionally with social, marketing, events, product, and other groups across the company.
Prior to joining Amazon, Jareen was the Director of Social Newsgathering at NBC News for more than three years. She built and lead a global team of journalists who would find, verify, and report on stories using social forensic techniques and open source intelligence tools.
Before NBC, Jareen was the former Head of Social at CBS News, building and leading a team of producers who created social and digital videos, wrote articles, and programmed content across various digital platforms. She was responsible for creating strategies focused on growing, engaging, and reaching new audiences for CBS News, CBS This Morning, 60 Minutes, 48 Hours, Evening News, Sunday Morning, and other premiere CBS shows.
Before relocating to New York City, Jareen was a producer for CNN in Atlanta. Her responsibilities included discovering, reporting, and investigating stories. She was on the award-winning iReport team where she focused on audience engagement and community management. Jareen was also the editor of CNN's space and science section, assigning, writing, and field reporting coverage. She’s a former crime reporter for the documentary true-crime series "48 Hours." She was also a fellow for the Sun-Sentinel, a major newspaper in South Florida, in 2007.
In 2020, Jareen was named one of IWMF’s Lauren Brown fellows for her achievements in media. She was also selected for Poynter’s leadership program, “How to manage in turbulent times,” where she was trained in crisis management and how to support employees during uncertain times. In 2019, she was selected as one of Take the Lead's "50 women who can change the world in journalism" fellows and IWMF’s Gwen Ifill fellow.
Jareen speaks at conferences and universities covering topics like social media strategy, information verification, and storytelling. She has spoken at colleges like the University of Florida, San Francisco State University, Pratt University, CUNY, and more. In 2018, Imam was inducted into Poynter's Leadership Academy for Women in Digital Media. She is also a mentor and coach for the Digital Women program. She’s the recipient of several media awards including the Peabody Award, the Edward Murrow Award, the SPJ Award, and she’s been nominated for several EMMY Awards.
