She has built and led social teams for brands and organizations including CNN, CBS News, U.S. presidential campaigns, technology companies, nonprofits, and private clients, growing accounts from modest audiences to millions of followers worldwide. Jareen also runs Gold Pen Media, a boutique social and digital media consulting firm that specializes in building and scaling digital audiences for clients.

Jareen is an expert at content marketing, developing and implementing editorial and content strategies for organizations such as Amazon Ads, the 2024 Democratic presidential campaign, REFORM Alliance, and the 23andMe Research Institute. At these organizations, she worked cross-functionally to create and tell important stories, reach audiences, increase engagement, and elevate perception.

Journalism

Jareen has published hundreds of bylines for media organizations including CNN, CBS News, and NBC News. She is a trained writer and editor. She was a fellow with the Sun Sentinel, a major newspaper in South Florida, before joining the true-crime series “48 Hours” as a crime reporter. There, she worked on the research and development team, conducting long-form investigations and producing episodes with her field producer. She spent seven years at CNN developing her breaking news and feature-writing skills and was the former editor of the network’s Space and Science section. At CBS News and NBC News, Jareen was a media director and executive producer, managing, editing, and advising her global teams as they reported and created digital, social, streaming, and live-programming content.

Media literacy and training

Jareen is an industry leader in the digital information space, uncovering misinformation and disinformation, verifying user-generated content, and debunking manipulated content. She built a verification team at NBC News that evolved from obtaining UGC for shows and platforms into a highly trained investigative journalism unit specializing in open-source reporting and social forensic analysis. During her tenure at NBCUniversal, her team was instrumental in key investigations conducted by NBC News’ investigative unit. She also collaborated with the acclaimed investigative outlet Bellingcat and with many departments and shows across NBC News. Jareen has developed internal and external classes that equip journalists and citizens with the tools and skills to navigate the polluted digital information space, especially in a world of AI-generated content.

She has experience starting nonprofits, serving as an active board member, chairing committees, and creating governance structures for nonprofits and other organizations.
