Jareen Imam is an expert social media strategist. She has built and led social teams for brands and organizations including CNN, CBS News, U.S. presidential campaigns, technology companies, nonprofits, and private clients, growing accounts from modest audiences to millions of followers worldwide. Jareen also runs Gold Pen Media, a boutique social and digital media consulting firm that specializes in building and scaling digital audiences for clients.

Jareen is a proven leader in social media, connecting brands and notable figures with the audiences they want to reach. She specializes in developing scroll-stopping content that drives reach and views. At CBS News, she implemented strategies that drove audiences to the network’s 24-hour streaming platform. She also created growth strategies that attracted new audiences and referral traffic for CNN and multiple CBS programs.

Social video strategy

In 2024, Jareen served as Head of Social Video Strategy for the Kamala Harris presidential campaign. She built and led a team of 15 producers and editors who created viral video content across Kamala Harris’s social media channels during the campaign.

Social media marketing

From journalism to nonprofit organizations, Jareen is an expert in social media marketing. She has leveraged TikTok, Instagram, LinkedIn, Facebook, X, Bluesky, Snapchat, YouTube, and Pinterest to build awareness, connect with audiences, and promote products, programs, events, and initiatives. In 2025, she served as vice president of marketing and communications at REFORM Alliance, a nonprofit dedicated to reforming the U.S. criminal justice system. She created a story-first marketing program focused on highlighting the experiences of people negatively affected by punitive criminal justice policies. The stories her team found, vetted, and shared helped advance policy change at the state and federal levels.

Social listening

While at NBCUniversal, Jareen built a global Social and Digital Newsgathering team specializing in finding and verifying viral, newsworthy, and breakthrough stories online through sophisticated social listening and open-source verification techniques. Her work earned the team several awards, including a 2022 Emmy.

From CNN to NBC, Jareen has created best practices and strategies around building relationships with online audiences and communities. At CNN, she was trained in content moderation when she worked for the award-winning iReport team. At NBC News, her global team managed the NBC tips ecosystem, which received hundreds of messages a day from around the world about stories, news tips, problems, and more. Her team successfully verified stories and issues from the tips ecosystem, leading to powerful storytelling and investigations. Her work was highlighted by Trusting News, a nonprofit supported by Craig Newmark that promotes efforts to build trust between media organizations and the public.
