Jareen has published hundreds of bylines for media organizations like CNN, CBS News, and NBC News. She’s a trained writer and editor. She was a fellow with the Sun Sentinel, a major newspaper in South Florida before joining the true-crime series “48 Hours” as a crime reporter. There she worked on the research and development team conducting long-form investigations and producing episodes with her field producer. She spent seven years at CNN developing her breaking news and feature writing skills and was the former editor of the “Space and Science” section for the network. At CBS News and NBC News, she operates as an editor, project manager, and supervising producer when her team produces content.

Investigative reporting
Jareen partnered with one of the reporters to produce this critical investigation that looked into the largest Covid-19 outbreak inside a U.S. prison system which led to the death of inmates and a prison guard. Her reporting contributed to immediate changes inside the prison and was cited in court cases around the country calling for the humane treatment of inmates.
Feature storytelling
From solution-based storytelling to long-from enterprise pieces, Jareen has told human-focused stories that dive deep into issues, trends, and people’s lives. Her work has won awards and influenced the lives of others. In this story, Jareen writes about Muslim Americans struggling with harassment and feelings of exclusion in their own country because of rising anti-Muslim sentiments.
Enterprise writing
During the height of the 2020 pandemic, Jareen led her team to report on the stories of ordinary Americans who tragically died due to Covid-19. The stories her team gathered were featured in this moving interactive piece produced by the NBC Digital team. This is one example of many cross-functional projects Jareen has been a part of in her professional career.
